Woodworks Details

Name of Wood and Usage

  • MERBAU (Intsia bijuga) : Solid, very stable hardwood, suitable for indoor and outdoor usage and for all kind of products. In general very termite resistant but will rot if permanently wet (needs washer installation for substructure of outdoor flooring i.e. pool deck). This species makes up approx. 85% of our total production.
  • BANGKIRAI (Shorea; various species) : Solid but unstable hardwood due to its spiral grain. Very suitable for roof structures, substructures and structural wood for houses. Limited usage for pool deck, not suitable for indoor flooring or cladding. In genera very termite resistant but will rot if permanently wet (needs washer installation for substructure of outdoor flooring i.e. pool deck). Currently very difficult to find grade A quality and price is already almost same as the traditionally more expensive Merbau.
  • TEAK (Tectona grandis L f. Verbenaceae) : Can only be exported as "reclaimed" or "recycled" wood. Solid wood, actually not a hardwood as such but very resistant against all kind of bugs and termites. Can accept water well but will eventually rot if submerged/wet permanently.
  • ULIN (Eusideroxylon zwageri T. et. B.) : Can only be exported as "reclaimed" or "recycled" wood. Tenser than water hence the name "iron wood" as it will sink in water. Can be permanently submerged and will not rot. Resistant against all known wood bugs and termites.
  • MAHOGANY (Macrophylla) : Soft wood, not resistant against bugs and termites but very popular for windows and doors as well as for indoor cladding and ceilings. Not suitable for flooring or structure.

Hardware

  • We always use the hardware as specified by the architect or owner. In general this would be Haefele for high end projects but we also have good experience with local products such as Dekson, Henderson, Solid.
  • For glue we always use Jowat PU (import from Germany)
  • For screws we use mainly Spax or other imported German brands (Wuerth or Haefele)

Work Method

We either follow strictly the drawings issued to us or, if the architect prefers this, we work out the best possible way of producing, jointing and assembling the products we are producing.

Installation

At a site visit, together with architect and on-site project manager, we will work which way of installation will work best in order to guarantee best results and installation method without visual issues.
